For many of us, navigating public spaces is a seamless experience. But for the estimated 2.2 billion people globally with vision impairment (according to the World Health Organization), clear and concise braille signage becomes the key that unlocks doors (literally and metaphorically).

The Dubai Accessibility Strategy 2020 (DUASAP) was a groundbreaking initiative launched by the Dubai government with a clear goal: to make Dubai a fully accessible city by 2020. This ambitious plan aimed to create a more inclusive environment for people of all abilities

This government entity acted as a central resource, providing guidelines and technical expertise to ensure accessibility standards were met. They also offered training programs and support to various stakeholders.

Sharjah Inclusive City Initiative

The Sharjah Inclusive City Initiative served as a valuable regional counterpart to the DUASAP.  Launched by the Sharjah government, this initiative mirrored Dubai’s goals of creating a barrier-free environment for people with disabilities.  Similar to the DUASAP, braille signage, and other accessibility measures played a central role in Sharjah’s vision of inclusivity.
